Hometree: Pioneering Impact in Home Decarbonization with Transparency and Action

Written by Author: Elena Harumi Stark

When it comes to leading the way in climate tech impact, Hometree has emerged as a standout innovator. Tackling the complex challenge of decarbonizing home heating in the UK, Hometree is much more than a service provider—they’re shaping consumer understanding and advancing sustainable practices in an essential sector.

At AENU, we’re proud to have supported Hometree on their journey, helping them scale their impact while strengthening their business. This partnership showcases how our Impact-as-a-Service (IaaS) initiatives can empower startups to achieve measurable results and communicate their progress effectively.

How Hometree is Redefining Sustainability

From day one, sustainability has been at Hometree’s core, thanks to founder Simon’s vision. Under Nicola’s leadership as Director of Sustainability, the company has taken this commitment even further by publishing their first-ever impact report.

This milestone report:

Outlined Hometree’s environmental and social contributions,

•Demonstrated their forward-looking GHG emission savings potential, and

•Secured them a nomination for edie’s Net Zero Strategy of the Year – SME Award.

The impact report didn’t just highlight their progress—it served as a tool to engage consumers, investors, and stakeholders in their mission to decarbonize homes.

AENU’s Role in Hometree’s Success

As part of our Impact-as-a-Service (IaaS) offerings, AENU worked closely with Hometree to strengthen their impact measurement, communication, and strategy. Here’s how we contributed:

1. Measuring and Communicating Impact

We partnered with 2150 to calculate Hometree’s unit impact and project their GHG emission savings potential. These metrics are essential for:

Clear, transparent reporting in their impact report,

•Enhancing consumer trust by showcasing the tangible benefits of their services, and

•Demonstrating measurable impact to stakeholders and investors.

2. Access to Sustainability Expertise

To further support Hometree’s growth, we provided access to the Leaders for Climate Action (LFCA) sustainability roadmapping course. This program equipped the Hometree team with:

•A roadmap to deepen their sustainability efforts,

•Tools for navigating industry challenges like Net Zero planning, and

•Insights into embedding sustainability into their organizational culture.

3. Peer Learning and Knowledge Sharing

Hometree became an active member of AENU’s Sustainability Leaders Group, a community of impact and ESG leaders across our portfolio. This forum gave them access to:

•Practical insights and strategies from peers facing similar challenges, and

•Expert advice on topics ranging from regulatory compliance to inclusive culture-building.

Hometree’s Achievements: A Case Study in Impact Communication

Hometree’s journey exemplifies how startups can use impact communication to drive success. Their first impact report is more than a showcase of their accomplishments—it’s a powerful tool to:

•Build consumer confidence in their sustainable solutions,

•Establish credibility with industry peers, and

•Differentiate themselves in a competitive market.

Their nomination for edie’s Net Zero Strategy of the Year – SME Award highlights the recognition they’ve earned by prioritizing transparency and measurable outcomes.

Hometree’s success offers key takeaways for other startups:

1. Measure Impact Early: Quantifiable results are vital for communicating value to stakeholders and customers alike.

2. Invest in Impact Communication: A clear, compelling impact narrative builds trust and drives engagement.

3. Leverage Community Support: Learning from peers and experts accelerates growth and innovation.

Celebrating Hometree’s Achievements

Hometree’s success is a testament to what can be achieved when sustainability and impact are prioritized. At AENU, we’re proud to have played a role in their journey, from helping quantify their impact to supporting their strategic communications.
